Summary
Investigator John Mackenzie, tactless and lacking social grace, arrives in the south of Spain with an unhealthy amount of baggag. Approaching forty, the cantankerous Scot is being divorced by his wife, failing as a father to his two children, and has--despite his exceptional mind and fifteen years of service--little to show for his time with the Met Police. Days previously, Spanish policewoman Cristina Sanchez Pradell arrived at work unaware that a routine callout would change her life. Cristin--a born fighter, who must already juggle a young family, the care of her disabled aunt, and a prohibitively male-favored system--would unwittingly cross the path of underworld kingpin, Jack Cleland, in a shootout that left his lover dead. Cleland, an egomaniacal psychopath, has arrived at one conclusion. That Cristina must pay. He does not forget a face. Neither does he relinquish a grudge. And he knows how to exploit a weak spot; one he soon identifies as Cristina's deaf-blind Aunt Ana. And so the Spanish police, Cristina and Ana must all now look to the same man to save them--the troubled yet brilliant John Mackenzie. But still living in the shadow of his father's failures, is he up to it? -- Inside flap
