Summary
""Richard St. Barbe Baker: Child of the Trees" is a biography of Richard St. Barbe Baker, the conservationist who was responsible for spearheading efforts to protect many of the world's forests. The book begins with accounts from Richard's childhood, where he developed a respect for trees and learned their importance in serving the environment. We then learn about Richard's schooling in forestry and his service in World War II. What follows is an account of Richard's copious travels throughout the globe, as he tried to raise awareness of the importance of conservation, founded the "Men of the Trees" organization, attempted to plant a "Green Wall" of trees in the Sahara desert to try to halt desertification, and learned about and ultimately joined the Bahá'í Faith. The book concludes by recounting Richard's final days in North America, where he was continuing to try to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the Earth's environment"--,Provided by publisher.
